– In-Corporeo –investigates the concept of the ‘body as matter’ and its complex relationship with the space that contains it. The title (written with a hyphen) in Italian opens up to several meanings, suggesting two different points of view: INCORPOREO, i.e. immaterial, without substance and IN-CORPOREO, i.e. within matter or also understood as within the body.
The exhibition presents the work of two artists who approach the theme from different but collateral perspectives, creating a subtle dialogue between the pictorial physicality of which the works are composed and the unstable, incorporeal sensation that emerges at their sight, perhaps as a fragile testimony to the elusive as well as perennial condition of the human being.
The pictorial gesture of both artists, inherent in their respective differences, reveals at least in part a certain renunciation of the natural logic of pure representation. On this occasion, La Fauci takes an innovative approach compared to his previous works, focusing on an aesthetic made up of rapid gestures with a strong material impact, altering the visual information of the image, thus accentuating the tension between the physical body and the symbolic representation. Cersosimo’s works, often characterised by metallic oxidised surfaces mixed with textures rough textures, wood or even strips of canvas, suggest a temporal conflict, incorporeal, untethered from space, between the organic matter of the painting’s surface, and the presence of the bodies represented with their their inevitable metamorphosis. In the exhibition the visitor is invited to immerse himself, through the vision of the images created by the two artists, in a reflection on one’s own corporeity, its position in the world and the intimate relationship that binds them, exploring the meaning of ‘IN-CORPOREO’ as a state of being and relationship with the space and matter.
The synergy between their artistic practices attempts to create a personal ́experience that stimulates perception and perception and analysis on the subject.Wabi-sabi celebrates the beauty of imperfection, impermanence, and the quiet simplicity of nature. It allows us to accept and appreciate things the way they are. As such, it has been seen as the Eastern equivalent -and counterpart- of the Western ideals of beauty and perfection originally carried on since the times of Ancient Greece. In this sense, we want artists to leave their comfort zone and take a different approach: beauty lies in the imperfect and the indefinite.
The exhibition will showcase how artists from diverse backgrounds, provenance, and media interpret these core principles and translate them into contemporary art.
